San Antonio Cannons
Chapter 4/10 · Candás
These are the San Antonio cannons. In the 18th century this headland was used to defend the coast and the harbour, and in 1770 three so-called twenty-four-pounder cannons were installed here.
They were dismantled in 1793, after the war against England, and in 1998 they were brought to this spot. Since 2000, every 1 August, the feast of San Félix, this San Antonio area hosts the Sardine Festival, of Regional Tourist Interest: the sardines are eaten on the meadow, with your hands.
We keep climbing towards the white chapel of San Antonio.
