Sabino Moutas Park
Chapter 1/9 · Pravia
Welcome to Pravia, capital of the municipality of the same name, in the lower valley of the river Nalón! We start in Sabino Moutas Park, in front of the Tourist Office, which is in the Library building, the old school. This is a circular walk on foot: we will come back to this very spot.
This square dates from the 18th century. Fernando Ignacio Arango Queipo, a native of Pravia, Bishop of Tui and a great benefactor of the town, built a Baroque ensemble here: the Collegiate Church, the Moutas Palace and the Canons' Houses. Because it went up outside the old town wall, it changed the shape of the town, and ever since this has been its main square. The Canons' Houses, opposite the church, were homes for the chaplains: nine were planned, but only six were built.
We go down Calle de Las Fuentes to the Chapel of El Valle.
