Regent's House

Chapter 8/9 · Salas

This is the Regent's House, between the Plaza del Príncipe de Asturias and Calle Peligros. It is a large house of classical lines, almost without decoration, from the late 18th century or the first half of the 19th, with wrought-iron balconies and a garden enclosed by a high wall. In the 1930s it housed a notary's office, and later the Valdés School.

The river Nonaya flows very close by. If you still have energy, an easy route of just over 6 kilometres there and back leaves the town for the Nonaya waterfall, next to the Way of Saint James. Legend says that a xana, the water fairy of Asturian mythology, sings there.

We return to La Campa square.
