La Marina Square
Chapter 1/6 · Cudillero
Welcome to Cudillero! We are in La Marina square, the heart of the town. The hillsides around the village form a kind of natural amphitheatre, with colourful houses around the square.
The first document that mentions the port dates from 1285. The people of the town are called pixuetos, a name that comes from people who lived from fishing. In 2006, by decree 77/2006 of the 29th of June, the village was declared an Asset of Cultural Interest, as a historic ensemble. And every 29th of June, Saint Peter’s day, the L’Amuravela sermon is delivered at the Ribera, as part of festivities that last several days.
We will make a circular walk and come back to this square. First, let’s go to the harbour and the lighthouse.
