Old harbour and lighthouse
Chapter 2/6 · Cudillero
We are at the old harbour, and at the far end, on Punta Roballera at the harbour entrance, is the lighthouse. It opened in 1858 and replaced the bonfires lit by the fishermen’s wives. It was electrified in 1930.
It has a curiosity: its siren, installed in 1945, sounds the letter “D” in Morse code, because the “C”, the logical one, was already used by the Candás lighthouse.
Now we climb to the Garita viewpoint. Mind you, Cudillero sits in a ravine and the way is steep in places.
