San Lorenzo Beach (west end of the seafront promenade)

Chapter 7/9 · Gijón

San Lorenzo Beach. We are at the western end of the Muro promenade, beside Cimadevilla — not at the eastern end towards the Piles.

It is the great shell-shaped city beach in the centre of Gijón; the sand stretches about one and a half kilometres or a little more, depending on the source. The Muro promenade was built between nineteen hundred and seven and nineteen sixteen. Eastwards the Cervigón path continues, outside this short route.

Now we climb Santa Catalina hill. There awaits Eduardo Chillida’s Eulogy to the Horizon. The climb is worth the view.
