Magdalena Square

Chapter 3/7 · Llanes

This is the Magdalena square. The present chapel stands on an earlier one from the 13th century, thought to have been the original parish church, and it has been altered several times. In July, Llanes celebrates the festivals of La Magdalena and Santa Ana.

The town was born in the 13th century: around 1228 King Alfonso IX granted the settlement its charter, although it already appeared in a document of 1225. Llanes had a wall about 840 metres long, with four gates, of which some stretches remain.

Now we go to the tower.
