Pilatos Viewpoint
Chapter 4/9 · Luanco
This is the Pilatos Viewpoint, in the middle of the historic centre, next to the Old Pier around which old Luanco grew. In 2020 its stone stairway was repaired and handrails were added.
The harbour sheltered a large fleet, first devoted to whaling and later to bonito, sardine, mackerel and monkfish, and there was also a thriving canning industry here. The town also suffered French occupation in 1809 and 1811, during the Peninsular War.
We go down to La Baragaña Square and Calle La Riba.
