María Veiga or Miranda House
Chapter 6/9 · Salas
On the corner of Calle de la Pola and the Plaza de la Veiga del Rey stands the María Veiga House, also called Casa Miranda because it belonged to the Count of Miranda. In the 17th century it was a coaching inn. It is a Baroque house in the popular style, with two side wings and a central gallery that was later enclosed with glass.
Look at the coat of arms on the upper floor and, next to it, the two small openings of an old dovecote under the roof. Above the balcony of the east-facing front there is an inscription with the year 1779, the date of one of its alterations. In 1752 the house belonged to the Count of Miranda, and in 1765 it passed to the house of Salas.
Now we climb up to the old church of San Martín, about 650 metres away, with a bit of a slope.
