Back to Plaza de la Constitución
Chapter 10/10 · Tapia de Casariego
Audio coming soon: meanwhile, the text is read aloud with your device voice.
We are back in Plaza de la Constitución. We have walked through the Tapia of the Marquis of Casariego, its old chapels, the pirates' viewpoint, the surfing waves, the harbour and the island lighthouse.
If you are hungry, Tapia's cooking lives from the sea: bonito tuna, hake, goose barnacles and octopus, which has its own food festival. The Town Council highlights dishes such as beans with clams and homemade desserts such as rice pudding or carnival fereixolos. The harbour has many terraces of cider houses and bars.
And if you stay longer: the municipality holds the Salave lagoons, born from an old Roman gold mine, and the Cancio manor house, birthplace of Gonzalo Méndez de Cancio, governor of Florida, to whom the first maize planting in Tapia is attributed. Among its events are the Campomar fair and, in August, the Western Interceltic Festival.
Thank you for joining us. Enjoy your stay in Tapia de Casariego!
