We are at the back of the Town Hall. Look at its facade: it has a clock tower and an inscription reading «Plaza del Mercado», market square. This was the site of Tapia's old market hall, demolished in 1960.

In front of you is the House of Culture, opened on 17 May 2010. It houses the auditorium, the library, the tourist office and the museum «The Lords of the Manor Houses», one of the three gateways to the Navia Historical Park, devoted to the families of the manor houses of western Asturias. According to the Town Council the museum is closed while it is renovated; if you are interested, ask at the tourist office.

In the centre of town, in Plaza del Campogrande, a monument unveiled on 3 July 1998 remembers another great figure of the area: the naval officer Fernando Villaamil, born in Serantes in 1845. He designed the first destroyer in history, commanded the first round-the-world voyage of a Spanish training ship and died in the naval battle of Santiago de Cuba in 1898.

Now we head west, towards the A Guardia quarter, to the Casa del Reguero.
